Diani to Chale Island via Kinondo Forest, Gazi Mangrove Tour

This guided bike tour takes you to the sacred Kaya Kinondo Forest—home to indigenous trees and a vital part of local spiritual traditions—promoting respectful interaction with nature. On Chale Island, enjoy eco-friendly hospitality and pristine beaches before heading to Gazi for a mangrove conservation tour led by local women working to protect Kenya’s coastal ecosystems. It’s a day of low-impact travel that supports community-based tourism and environmental stewardship. Meet up: Start your adventure at a central location in Diani Beach or at a hotel where bikes are provided. Ensure bikes are in good condition with helmets, water bottles, and other essentials. Brief the group on the day’s route. Route: Begin your ride along the Diani Beach Road, then venture into the greenery of the Kaya Kinondo Sacred Forest , a coastal forest reserve filled with indigenous trees. The road to the forest can be a little more rugged, so be prepared for a thrilling off-road experience. The forest is about 12 km from the starting point. Kaya Kinondo is a forest endowed with various ancient and unique species of trees some as old as 1000 years, the forest has over 190 tree species 140 of which are classified as rare spread across 30 acres of land. Once at the Kaya Kinondo, a guide takes you through the do’s and don’ts applicable whilst inside the Kaya before setting you on the path of nature within, as mentioned earlier, Kayas are traditional places of worship and as such are accorded the same respect you accord mosques and churches. Resume the ride to Chale Island after the forest tour. Once you get to the beach, leave the bikes behind, as this is a small island with limited roads. Lunch Break: Enjoy a delicious lunch at The Sands at Chale, with views of the beach and the Indian Ocean. After lunch, take a few moments to enjoy the beach, take a swim, or simply relax in the idyllic tropical surroundings before heading to your next adventure. Route: After lunch, take a boat ride to Gazi, a charming coastal village located on the mainland. Visit the Gazi Women Mangrove Project and learn about the mangrove conservation. Tour the mangrove forest, one of Kenya's important coastal ecosystems. Watch for birds, crabs, and other marine creatures as you make your way through the specially built boardwalks through the forest. Ride Back: After the mangrove board walk, cycle back to Diani Beach. Colobus Conservation Centre & Turtle Centre

In support of the colobus monkeys and turtle conservation. This tour includes a visit to the colobus centre where you will be enlightened on the plight of the primates and the efforts made to conserve the wildlife in Diani. All proceed goes to helping the trust. It also includes a visit to The Marine Education Center at The Sands with an opportunity to take part in a variety of activities with the center’s resident marine biologist and education manager. Total Distance covered: ~12 km This whole tour takes 3 – 4 hrs. Meet up: Begin the tour at a central location like the Diani Beach area or a pre-arranged hotel where bikes are available for rent. Brief the group about the route. Route: Ride along the Diani Beach Road heading towards the Turtle Centre, taking in the tropical surroundings on the way. The Marine Education Center at The Sands is dedicated to the protection of sea turtles. Learn about the species, the challenges they face, and how the centre supports their conservation and impacting the community. Route: From Turtle Centre cycle towards the Colobus Centre. Colobus Conservation Centre: Visit the Colobus Conservation Centre, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the endangered Colobus monkeys and their habitat. Learn about the local wildlife conservation efforts, take a guided tour of the centre, and see the rescued Colobus monkeys up close. Route Back: Cycle back towards Diani Beach, retracing your steps along the routes. During low tide, cycle back along the white sandy beach of Diani. What should I bring on a tour?

For most tours, we recommend comfortable clothing, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, and a camera. For water activities, bring swimwear and a towel. Specific requirements will be provided in your booking confirmation.

What is your cancellation policy?

We offer full refunds for cancellations made 48 hours before the tour date. Cancellations within 48 hours are eligible for a 50% refund. In case of unfavorable weather conditions, we'll reschedule or provide a full refund.
