CSR Experience: Gazi Women and Mangrove Planting

This CSR experience connects guests with the Gazi Women's community conservation initiative through a guided mangrove boardwalk, hands-on seedling planting, and time with local women leading restoration work in Gazi.

Your day begins with pickup from your hotel, followed by a drive of about 30 minutes to Gazi. On arrival, you'll be welcomed by the women of the Gazi Women's Boardwalk Initiative and briefed on their community conservation work. During the guided boardwalk, you'll learn about the different mangrove species found in the area, their local and commercial uses, and the wider ecosystem they support. Gazi is home to six of Kenya's eight mangrove species, as well as resident birds, crabs, and other land and sea life.

At the end of the walk, you'll return to the shed for a water break and light snacks. During the 30-minute break, the women will demonstrate how to handle the mangrove seedlings and help guests prepare with the right attire for planting. After the demonstration, they'll lead the group to the planting area, where each guest takes part in planting mangrove seedlings.

Once the planting is complete, you'll return to the shed for water, refreshments, or lunch. After cleaning up, guests can enjoy a local dance performance before heading back to the hotel.

Good to Know

Guests should wear comfortable clothing and footwear suitable for walking in wet or muddy areas. The experience includes light activity on the boardwalk and in the mangrove planting area.
